POINT LOMA. Locals have favored this fish and chips place for years, and it's one of San Diego's best places for al fresco dining. You'll also consider it a good place to purchase reasonably priced fresh seafood, party platters, and sushi (there's also a sushi deli should you want a few rolls while you're there). If you're an angler and catch something yourself, Point Loma Seafoods will fillet and smoke it for you.

LA JOLLA. Sami Ledecki's latest culinary adventure is nothing short of spectacular. From the modern earth-toned, softly lit dining room complete with tropical fish tank to an exciting fusion of Chinese, Korean and American with such tempting dishes as Mongolian grilled shrimp with mango ­ you can't go wrong at this local favorite. Be sure to leave room for the divine desserts ­ their "chocolate decadence" is heaven!

PACIFIC BEACH. Set in a strip mall amid a handful of unassuming businesses, this great restaurant hides its excellence well. Don't be swayed, though, by service-shop neighbors. Loyal crowds who flock to Sushi Ota covet the sublime fare and readily return to partake of it. The place has won rave reviews from several national publications, and along with impeccably prepared sashimi, rolls and seaweed salad, it also offers tempura, teriyaki and fried seafood.

DOWNTOWN. This landmark enterprise is a city mainstay that offers the area's largest selection of premium seafood. The daily fresh-catch board boasts as many as 16 choices, often making decisions difficult. The relaxed space features maple tables and panoramic Bay views, and reasonable prices only bolster the place's stellar reputation. The more fine dining-inclined Top of the Market is located upstairs and also serves Sunday brunch. Located on the edge of Tuna Fleet Park near the lower end of Harbor Drive.
