LA JOLLA. Donovan's looks like the epitome of traditional steakhouse elegance, complete with rich woods and bronze sculptures. Impeccable service, USDA Prime beef, top shelf cocktails and a large wine selection confirm these first impressions. If steak doesn't appeal, other options include perfect pork and veal chops, grilled salmon and Australian lobster. Both DiRoNA and Wine Spectator have come calling, leaving behind their marks of approval. If you visit the bar between 4pm and 6pm, you can sample complimentary filet mignon mini-sandwiches. Plus, Fleming's has some 100 wines available by the glass, along with numerous others available by the bottle.

Located on the mezzanine floor of a renovated brick warehouse, the chic wood-and-leather clad restaurant has won numerous accolades for its great food. Pork chops, veal, fish and chicken are on the menu, but the restaurant is best known for steaks and martinis. If you're feeling indulgent, treat yourself to the pepper filet, which claims additional flavor with sauteed bacon, mushrooms, and onions.
